HABITS THAT HURT THE KIDNEYS

   

Red meat: Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Protein is essential to a healthy diet. Bad Kidneys should avoid a lot of red meat because it can over tax them. So eat little types of protein eg  eggs, fish, beans etc.

Salt: In reality we should not exceed 5g of dietary salt daily. Too much of salt can raise the amount of protein in the urine in some individuals and speed up kidney decline. This can also lead to kidney stones which can cause nausea, severe pain, and trouble peeing.

Dehydration: Our two kidneys need water to work properly. Not taking enough water can cause kidney damage. It is almost very true that taking enough water can prevent kidney damage and help with kidney stones.

Sodas: Two or more diet sodas a day can possibly give u kidney disease. A study shows diet soda –drinking woman had 30% less kidney function after 20years compared with other women. Sugar sweetened drinks did not have the same effect

Smoking: Not only does it worsen hypertension and type2 diabetes, which are the two leading causes of kidney diseases. It can interfere with drugs used to treat kidney diseases. It can slow down blood flow to the kidneys and can cause kidney issues in people already with hypertension or diabetes.

And lastly, Alcohol: This is one of the major causes of liver disease but this article is on kidneys. Heavy drinkers double their risk of kidney disease eg taking more than 14 drinks a week for men and more than 7 in women. But a binge session (more than 4 or 5 drinks in less than 2hours) can sometimes cause acute kidney injury. This can lead to severe kidney issues and likely result in going for dialysis.
